Point Code Emulation for SEGway STPs
PT’s Point Code Emulation (PCE) solution is a SEGway feature that provides network operators with the ability to transparently configure and manipulate SS7 nodes without disrupting or reconfiguring the public SS7 network. Point Code Emulation is similar to NAT on an IP network, whereby private network addresses are hidden from the outside world and incoming messages are re-routed to their proper destination.
Using PCE, network operators have more control over their networks by minimizing administrative and coordination delays when introducing, retiring, or reconfiguring SS7 nodes. Typical Point Code Emulation applications are switch cutovers, A/F Link consolidation, reduction of STP interconnection charges, or point code preservation/conservation.

Operators can benefit from PCE’s powerful capabilities experiencing significant savings both operationally and through lower facilities costs.
Virtual Private Network
Representing multiple nodes in the network with a single point code creates unprecedented flexibility as legacy switching gear is retired for the transition to IP. No need to add new point codes.
Total Control of your Network’s Transition
Whether migrating a single trunk or a whole office, PCE affords the power to make this transition safely, on a schedule of the operators’ choosing, by eliminating the dependence on interconnectivity partners’ schedules. Transparent Network Growth
Scaling up a network no longer automatically results in increased signaling costs. Operators who today pay for SS7 services based on the number of point codes can cap these costs by growing their network under fewer point codes. Operators whose growth is capped by limited point code availability can expand their network capacity without the need for new point codes.Enabling Platforms
