SEGway™ STP

Signal Transfer Points (STP) are specialized packet switches used to convert dialed digits to data messages. Acting as centralized routing engines for these data messages, the STP manages the complex process of controlling phone calls, and delivery of advanced services such as calling name delivery, number portability and nationwide roaming for wireless.

SEGway™ STP has the scalability and flexibility to address the signaling requirements of both a tier 3 carrier whose link needs are small and the large international operator who requires several thousand links.

SEGway™ STPs allow a service provider to “take control” of their signaling network. This is of critical importance for a multitude of reasons.

• STPs act as the gateway to a signaling network, managing and controlling all traffic, securing and protecting the operator’s network from unauthorized access thereby preventing denial of service or malicious network attacks.

Flexible connectivity and scalability

• As message volume increases, carriers can reduce costs by turning to SS7 over IP solutions, which replace traditional SS7 connectivity (TDM, ATM, HSL). Operators are seeking to minimize capital expenditures on older technologies while spending money on, and migrating users to, IP.
