Contract Manufacturing Manager

Reports To:  Director Supply Chain Management
Location:  Rochester, New York

Job Summary:


Strategic manager of key vendor partner relationships. Convey forecast, product development pipeline and new product introduction, manufacturing strategy and coordinate continuous improvement efforts to improve operational performance.  Measure contract manufacturer (CM) quality and delivery performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily tactical issues and scheduling requirements, purchase order placement and maintenance, discrepant material disposition and Accounts Payables/Accounts Receivables issue resolution.
  • Act as single point of contact to CM on behalf of Performance Technologies (PT). Facilitate cross functional communication and coordinate Quality and Engineering interaction with their peers at the CM. Overall ownership of the vendor relationship.
  • Work with assigned new product development team to support fast time-to-market of new product introduction. Coach engineering on materials methodology and cost and facilitate engineering and supplier communication as the technical resource in support of DFM, DFT and total cost reduction.
  • Communicate and manage document change notification (DCN, aka ECO) implementation. Capture, report and mitigate stranded inventory as a result of design change.
  • Validate pricing, material procurement and inventory management process at the CM within the scope of applicable manufacturing services agreements and contracts. Manage PT owned material and assets located at the CM, including periodic cycle count for financial audit purposes.
  • Effectively expedite constrained material and/or resources to meet the revenue requirements of PT. Monitor and report on capacity constraints that could impact the CM’s ability to achieve PT’s requirements.
  • Create and administer CM performance metrics for quality, delivery and cost.
  • Prepare and present metrics at Quarterly Business Reviews and drive specific improvement actions where performance does not achieve service level goals.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes for quality, yield and performance improvement.
  • Develop and implement automated replenishment techniques such as kanban where appropriate, coach supplier and internal resources on the implementation and execution of these techniques.
  • Manage sub-tier suppliers and related spend as assigned.
  • Devise and implement cost reduction strategies that produce results. Participate in make vs. buy analysis and develop strategies for sub-assembly or product level outsource where appropriate.
  • Other projects and tasks as required.

Education and Skill Set Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or other discipline with relevant experience
  • Familiarity with managing inventory levels and implementing long-term supply agreements.
  • Hands-on utilization of MRP.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings.
  • A strong knowledge of contract generation, interpretation and negotiation as well as a total understanding of manufacturing processes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Presentation skills. Internet utilization. Critical thinking, decision making, complex problem solving and project management. Detail oriented.
  • Microsoft excel proficient, Microsoft access a plus.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Requires some travel both domestically and internationally .
